On Wednesday 22nd February, Mercedes-Benz proudly hosted the final catwalk presentation of menswear day during London Fashion Week 2012: the eagerly anticipated RAKE show at Claridge’s Hotel.

An excited crowd including Amir Khan, Tinie Tempah, Dermot O’Leary and Kelly Brook was on hand to see RAKE unveil their Autumn/Winter 2012 collection. Putting a modern twist on quintessentially British ‘country’ tailoring, the range combined elegant, timeless style, refined luxury and impeccable attention to detail – all qualities very familiar to Mercedes-Benz.

As RAKE designer Clive Darby explained, “The Mercedes-Benz link works perfectly because we share a modern philosophy: a commitment to making our products as beautiful on the inside as the outside.”

The latest car reveal from Mercedes-Benz, the new GL-Class, seems to have all the bases covered. Marking a perfect balance between comfort, control, safety, style, efficiency and driving dynamics it has all the characteristics expected of an SUV and a whole load more.

In fact, Dr Joachim Schmidt, Executive Vice President Mercedes-Benz Cars, Sales and Marketing, believes that “the new GL-Class occupies the top position amongst the luxury SUVs. With its comprehensive assistance systems it has a pioneering role where safety and comfort are concerned, and is on a par with an S-Class – even off the beaten track.” His view is hardly surprising; the new GL-Class has been purposefully built for optimum comfort in both on and off-road environments and provides a spacious environment for all seven passengers.

Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg finished yesterday’s rain-soaked Malaysian Grand Prix in 10th and 13th places respectively.

Despite a strong start, Michael’s car was touched on the first lap leading to a spin which dropped him to 16th at the end of lap one. Struggling with adverse weather conditions and poor visibility, the race was halted on lap nine and restarted 51 minutes later.

After the race Schumacher admitted: “It’s clear from today that there is still a lot of work for us to do to take our pace from qualifying into the race, and I am sure the guys are already thinking very hard about finding a solution.”
