Oh, would you look at that? GM will indeed be making some of its left-hand drive Holden conversion money back after all! Unfortunately, it’s not doing anything other than cop cars in the States, just yet. Brazil, on the other hand, will be getting its own Holden Commodore Series II wearing the Omega nameplate. This move marks the return of Holden exports to Brazil, which ran between 1998 with the VT-based Chevrolet Omega and 2008.

GM says the Brazilian-market Commodore will be offered with the 3.6-liter SIDI V6 that can run on fuels with up to 25% ethanol.

With new Corporate Average Fuel Economy regulations getting closer and closer, many automakers are physically downsizing their product lineup and offering more fuel-efficient powertrains. If sources are to be believed, General Motors next-generation lineup of midsize sedans may go with an all 4-cylinder engine lineup.

We’ve already seen this happen with the 2011 Buick Regal, which is only available with 4-cylinder powertrains. Even the high-performance Regal GS will be powered by a 4-banger.

Callaway Cars is one tuner that has delivered some powerful modifications for Chevrolet Corvettes and Camaros over the years. The tuner is now in the process of adding a Chevrolet pickup truck to its lineup.

“We’re working on a truck,” said Mike Vendetto, commercial manager for Callaway. “It’s a Chevrolet Silverado with a 6.2-liter, but we’re looking at smaller-displacement versions too.”

Spy photographers have once again run into the forthcoming 2012 Chevy Malibu. This new Malibu, which should begin production late 2011 in GM’s recently updated Fairfax, Kansas assembly plant, looks to be a thorough revisioning of the Malibu platform with new sheetmetal– the cutline has been lowered and follows through the door handles, the trunk has a new bustle to it and wheel arches are more subtle– and underpinned by a version of the Epsilon II platform currently used by the Buick Regal and Opel Insignia. That would make this Malibu more likely to be a global offering from GM as opposed to strictly a US market proposition.

It’s official: There’s no mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette on the horizon. That’s the word from General Motors’ top global engineer.

As for a Corvette with a hybrid powertrain, that remains a possibility.

Karl-Friedrich Stracke, GM vice president of global vehicle engineering, on Tuesday discussed a wide range of topics–including the next-generation Corvette.
