We’ve been hearing about the delays to the next-generation Lotus Esprit for quite some time now. However, according to AutoCar the Esprit program has been given the green light and we’ll hear more details when the company’s new CEO Danny Bahr is due to reveal his seven-year plan.

A source said that the replacement for the Esprit, which could get a different name, would be an “essential brand image builder” and a “high-status purchase.”

Effective October 1, former Ferrari executive Dany Bahar will take over as Group Lotus‘ new CEO. Bahar replaces Mike Kimberley, the highly-respected former Lotus chief, who was forced to step down due to ongoing health concerns.

North American owners of naturally aspirated Elise and Exige models can now add a little more oomph to their cars without worrying about voiding the warranty as Lotus USA has announced the availability of a factory engineered, warranted and 50-state legal supercharger kit. Utilizing the same supercharger and integrated intake manifold unit as fitted to a production Elise SC, the kit can be installed on any naturally aspirated Elise or Exige powered by a Toyota 2ZZ-GE engine.

Here’s one of the first videos of the Lotus Evora sports coupe that was filmed during the official press launch event in Scotland earlier this month. The first truly-new Lotus in almost 15 years is powered by a mid-mounted, Toyota-sourced 3.5-liter V6 that cranks out 276HP at 6,400 rpm and 252 lbs-ft or 342Nm of torque at 4,700 rpm launching the coupe from rest to 100 km/h (62mph) in 5.1 seconds and on to a top speed of 260 km/h or 162mph.
