Chery Auto sold 35,000 vehicles in March, after 30,000 units in February and 35,000 units in January. The Chery A3 series, which sold more than 5,000 units last month, has started contributing to the company’s auto sales, xinhuanet.com said today.

The restructuring and revitalization plan of automotive industry has been officially released recently. In addition to the rural subsidy policy, fuel-efficiency and new-energy vehicles scheme, domestic brands program, the plan has triggered an industry’s trend of mergers and acquisitions via setting up new infrastructure system of electric vehicles and emphasizing the status of heavy-duty trucks, Shanghai Securities News reported today.

Fang Yan writing for Reuters reported that China’s Chery Automobile Co has delayed a car joint venture project with Italy’s Fiat SpA (FIA.MI) because of changing market conditions, its chairman said on Thursday.
“Foreign automakers are affected by the financial crisis and any additional investment will be difficult for them at a time like this,” Chairman Yin Tongyao told reporters on the sidelines of a news conference to launch its first mid-to-high-end sedan under a new brand.

Neville Crichton’s Ateco group plans an assault on the local car market with its plan to import the Chery range of cars from China, aiming to sign 140 dealers by the time the cars go on sale in the middle of next year.
And Ateco is talking to another Chinese car maker about distributing its products here but it is not saying which one.
Ateco was receiving four to five inquiries a week from dealers, said spokesman Edward Rowe.
