The first all-new model to come out of the Lotus factory in 13 years, the Eagle, will be revealed on July 22 when the British Motor Show in London opens its doors to the members of the press. However, we managed to discover an official teaser image of the mid-engined 2+2 sports car that is rumored to be powered by a modified version of the Toyota Camry’s 3.5 V6 engine that in stock form produces 268Hp at 6,200 rpm and 248 lb.-ft. at 4,700 rpm.

Construction of the new museum of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is running at full speed. “This is the most spectacular construction project in our Company’s history,” said Anton Hunger, head of Press and Public Relations at the sports car manufacturer, and also responsible for the museum project.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) held a hearing this week to discuss the threats created by hybrids and increasingly quiet vehicles. Hybrid sales and trends to make vehicles quieter are expected only to expand, and advocacy groups are concerned with the corresponding increase in potential for pedestrian accidents. The discussion was particularly focused on city environments and on hybrid vehicles that can be almost completely silent at stoplight-to-stoplight urban speeds.

Next year will see the launch of two critical models for German labels BMW and Mercedes-Benz, with both the next-generation 5-series and E-Class sedans plus their different variants expected to be released over the next 12 months. Mercedes-Benz will be first to the table with the launch of its new E-Class and subsequent E63 due at next year’s Geneva Motor Show, however later that same year BMW will unveil its next-generation 5-series.

Nissan announced that deliveries of the all-new 2009 Nissan GT-R are scheduled to begin on Monday, July 7, 2008. More than 1,700 of the exotic 480-horsepower GT-R supercars, or approximately 70 percent of the first year allocation for the United States market, have already been spoken for since the announcement of a pre-sale ordering program last January.
