hyundai_logo.jpgAfter speaking directly with Hyundai, Leftlane has learned that, despite yesterday’s reports to the contrary, the Korean automaker does not have any intention to open a plant in Mexico.

A report that originated with Edmunds yesterday indicated that the government agency Promexico was in negotiations with Hyundai over a new factory in the state of Veracruz.

However, today Hyundai issued a statement denying any plans to open a Mexican facility:

“The recent report of Hyundai Motor Company planning an investment in a Mexican manufacturing subsidiary is completely groundless,” Hyundai said in a statement released to the media. “Neither HMC nor its affiliates in the Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group have any plans to invest in manufacturing operations in Mexico at this time. ”
