A lot of funs are waiting for some novelties and changes in Chevrolet Cobalt, but this year it is weighed and found wanting. In 2008 the Cobalt compact sedan and coupe return with minimal changes.

There are offered three levels: LS, LT, and Sport. The former two feature a 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine, which produces 148 horsepower; the former SS and SS Supercharged versions have been put on hiatus, according to Chevrolet, while “the next generation in Cobalt high performance’s legacy is finalized. A 2.4-liter four is offered on Cobalt Sport models.

Last year’s Sport package becomes the Performance Appearance Package and is available on 2LT models; it includes a rear spoiler, 16-inch aluminium wheels, stainless steel exhaust with chrome tips, fog lamps, white-face gauges, and leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter knob.

But there will be new safety changes include standard stability control on 2LT and Sport models for 2008; traction control is also standard on Cobalt with automatic transmissions and anti-lock brakes, which are optional. Curtain airbags are now standard on all versions.

XM is installed free of charge across the board, but you’ll have to ante up for a subscription to the satellite radio service. Also optional equipment includes On Star (which is standard on 2LT and Sport models).
