AUSTIN, Texas – The Chevrolet Sound Garage opens its doors Wednesday, March 14 through Saturday, March 17 at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Music Festival. Chevrolet will showcase 18 bands at two events: the Chevrolet Indie Music Series and Secret Walls Live Art Battle.

“Chevrolet and music have been inseparable since the invention of the car radio,” said Chris Perry,” vice president of Chevrolet Global Marketing and Strategy.

“As one of the largest music festivals in the world, SXSW lets us spend time with customers and celebrate the music that drives them. The Chevrolet Sound Garage also gives emerging artists the jump start they may need to launch their careers.”

In addition to keeping customers entertained, music helps feed the creativity and vision that go into designing Chevrolet cars, trucks and crossovers.

“In our studios around the world, designers routinely work to the beat of their personalized playlists, and we get a lot of our inspiration right here,” said Rich Scheer, an exterior design director, whose portfolio includes the Chevrolet Sonic and upcoming Spark, as well as the Camaro and Corvette.

The Chevrolet Sound Garage is in the heart of Austin’s entertainment district, at 614 E. Sixth St. Chevrolet Indie Music Showcase performances are 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Wednesday and Friday. For generations, Chevrolet has embraced music as diverse as the millions of customers who buy Chevy’s cars, trucks and crossovers. They include country, rock, R&B, rap and classical. In turn, nearly 1,000 songs have been written about or mention Chevy.

“If cars, trucks and crossovers transport us along life’s journey, then surely music is the soundtrack,” said Perry.

Examples of Chevrolet’s deep involvement in music include:

Sponsorship of the Country Music Association (CMA) Festival, CMA Awards and the CMA Foundation’s “Keep the Music Playing” program that funds music programs in Nashville public schools

Relationships with MTV, Billboard, Pandora and Spotify

Concert tours at military bases, including artists such as Brad Paisley and the Lt. Dan Band

Chevy Sonic Sounds program with OK Go, and Sonic Super Bowl ad featuring the single

“We are Young” by Fun which has sold more than 1.1 million downloads since the spot debuted on Feb, 5

Beyond the Chevrolet Sound Garage, other Chevy involvement at SXSW includes the popular “Catch-a-Chevy” shuttle rides through the downtown Austin area, a special Chevrolet MyLink demonstration, the Volt Recharge Lounge and more.
